Black Square (Cell)
is a photographic work depicting a small square window in a prison door, looking through to the inky darkness of a prison cell. The cell beckons, whilst slight touches of rust and scratches may call to mind the many interned and accused who have occupied its space. The work offers an intentionally ambiguous reflection on the relations between art and the carceral, or art and institution, as well as ideas of borders and thresholds on to the unknowable or unthinkable.
