Colour Guide

Installation, 2004
Translucent vinyl film applied to window, framed email printout on paper.

This piece features a private email forwarded to the artist by a photographer working for Corbis, a conglomerate owned by Bill Gates, which licenses the rights to over 100 million photographs and other media. The email features the company's 'colour guide', a set of 36 colours that should be used within any photographs created by freelance photographers working for them, since these colours will apparently be more attractive to the mass market in the near future.

The vinyl film on the window replicates the grid layout and colours of the Corbis colour guide and offers the only light source in the gallery. A printout of the email is attached to the gallery wall.
